So Conor blogged a point about elderly conservatism and youth liberalism...
Dan and I talked a lil bit about this on the way up to the New Years Party. Dan made a point that you may not actually become conservative with age, but the times become more liberal. I believe that, but I can say that financially I know I will become more conservative, especially with the addition of a spouse, children, etc. I blow money away now like it does, in fact, grow on trees, but when I'm 42, juggling groceries, diapers, and other assorted bills, I'll prolly be more inclined to squeeze every penny.
And as we all know politics and the times are both run exclusively by money, so desicions will be based on money as well. Who I vote for, and my beliefs and causes will be runned by my wallet, not to say that my experiences and morality won't play a part, but the fact that I have the weight of a family and property on my shoulders might make me turn the other cheek, if that makes me vote for the candidate that will give me a tax cut....
After reading that, I am a jackass
My resolution, and someone mentioned it at the New Years Party, is to read more books than I did last year. It shouldn't be too hard. I only read books based on famous musicians. With this, I hope to continue to expand my mind.
I think its such a great resolution, it's not outta reach like getting those six-pack abs by the summer, or going vegan. It's simple and within my grasp.
I have other resolutions but they won't play a giant role, they're more like small stuff to keep in check.

Hmmm, I figured I would also be more financially conservative as I grow older, but never realized how that would affect my other facets of living. Thats a good point, jackass.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I think I'm pretty conservative with money right now, when you put it that way. Like, I don't buy useless things from gas stations and that sort of thing. My outlook is 'take what you need; nothing more, nothing less' and I think that's pretty humble, not conservative.
ReplyDeleteAlso, just some thought about the whole vegan thing... it can tear a hole through your wallet. The fact of the human body is that it needs protein. While I agree that it is easily do-able, soy and other protein substitutes are more rare and are therefore more expensive. I know because I gave up all meat until my body couldn't handle it and my funds weren't supporting it. I hope you can go through with it if you're that interested; just know the effort involved.
oh no mikey, i was saying that going vegan is hard to do, and that reading more books is more within my reach, i couldnt go vegan, and I have respect for any vegetarian or vegan, because I couldn't go through with that lifestyle... financially or physically
